Having a birth certificate allows children to be counted. Watch the video to hear direct from a family CCT supports about how connecting families to social services can have a profound effect on a child’s life.
In Cambodia, when children are not born in a hospital, they might not have a birth certificate. This is a huge disadvantage right at the start of life, as without a birth certificate, registering a child in public school is extremely difficult, let alone trying to receive healthcare in a public hospital.
Children without officially registered births can slip through the cracks.
Furthermore, families experiencing poverty can often feel disconnected from their communities and the mere process of navigating the bureaucracy necessary to obtain the identification can feel overwhelming.
Encouraging families throughout this process is just one of the ways CCT Village-Based Social Workers perform simple yet life–changing work with families at risk of separation, everyday.
